about
Images, words, and actions blend and transform space into an immersive environment of rhythm, color, light, and signal distortion created by Marcia Bassett and Ursula Scherrer. A LA MAISON LIVE audio documentation from 2022.03.19 recorded at à La Maison Residency, Paris, as part of the Maison d'hôte monthly program.
At the closure of their residency, at à La Maison Printing, Marcia Bassett and Ursula Scherrer, presented their findings in an intimate setting. The listener is invited to engage with the mesmerizing exchange of intuition and deep awareness. The audio documentation captures the essence of their week-long explorations. Marcia Bassett on Buchla Music Easel and modular synthesizer, creates transient patterns by drawing on vellum positioned over an array of contact mics triggering her easel. Ursula Scherrer's real-time projections using the remnants of their work, scraps that usually land in the garbage, react as random intervals shaping a live visual score composed in real-time. The audible marks on the paper and pattern voltages intertwine with projected light and movement. As the performance progresses, Ursula Scherrer's stream of conscious spoken word takes center stage, melding with the complexities of signal feedback.
Marcia Bassett and Ursula Scherrer collaborate using sound, performance, live visuals, and text. Their immersive installations transform space and time by examining the conceptual and visceral—traversing the depths of the unconscious to the heights of the superconscious.
Other documentation, separate from this ltd edition CDr, includes a Ltd box edition FA\CE by Marcia Bassett and Ursula Scherrer produced at the A La Maison sound and visual residency. Available through A La Maison Printing: Box edition of printed ephemera, publication 12,3x17cm - 24 pages, sound file, original performance drawing in size 12,5x18cm and unique polaroid.
